South Huntsville Neighbors "Fantasy Playhouse Celebrates Their 63rd Season"

Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater & Academy (FPCTA) launches an exciting 63rd season with all original adaptations and plays written by Alabama authors presented by Redstone Federal Credit Union. FPCTA kicks off this all-new season with Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book adapted by Limestone County’s J.B. Mitchell. Following this wild adventure, a new version of the holiday staple Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol makes its premiere, written and directed by Huntsville native Cherie Evans. In February, we travel back to Nysland Wood for the next fairytale installment by Stephen Tyler Davis, Rapunzel and the Beanstalk. Rounding out its season FPCTA launches a new play about the two infamous primates of Alabama history that led the space race in 1959. Space Monkeys! The Adventures of Baker & Able will have its world premiere in May 2024.

“Yes, our 63rd season is all new and very ambitious- but if anyone can pull it off, the innovative Magic Makers at Fantasy can,” says Artistic Director Stephen Tyler Davis. “Our theme for the season is Brave Stories, Brave Spaces and we are so excited to create these worlds with our FPCTA production teams, artists, volunteers, and for the first time ever- our own Fantasy Academy students. This season, FPCTA young artists will take their work in technical theatre, puppetry, costume design, and playwriting from the classroom to the mainstage! Honoring our commitment to innovation and excellence in arts education, we are proud to watch our students collaborate with working professionals and volunteer magic makers to create these all-new productions that have never been seen on stage before. We are setting the bar for creativity, work ethic, applied skills, and process-focused theatre-making for children’s theaters across the country. It’s a great time for the theatre community in Huntsville and beyond!”
